The Beau-Decca Radiogram Model BD3378
This Fabulous quality unit came to me for a overhaul. The set has a very unusual assembly with the radio unit separate to the amplifier, with the radio unit having the very useful ability to be pulled out on a 4 meter long power and signals lead. Great for servicing. And may have been designed as a very early type of remote control. Once the receiver unit is removed the top wooden panel can be removed, and the main power and amplifier can be taken out through the top.
Under check and test there were a
few problems with the set The main being the multi core lead from the radio
and the Amplifier over time some
of the thin wires inside the octal plugs and sockets had disconnected and required a re- soldering. I would guess that this would be a common fault with these sets. Next a new amplifier volume control was fitted, all the paper anode to grid coupling capacitors were changed then, the radio and the amp were then put on test.
After the record deck had been removed cleaned and lubricated it all worked very smoothly. The whole lot then carefully reassembled . A final clean and polish to the super walnut figured mahogany and it is ready to be returned to its owner. The set really performs well It has 4 loudspeakers driven by 2 PX4 power triodes.
