The dreaded Roberts Radio 707.

Probably the best Roberts model produced, but by far the most difficult to work on . The worst aspect of this chassis is the unreliability of the AF117 AF115 transistors that are mounted in the I.F. Module which in the original design was not meant to be serviced but must be returned to the Roberts factory for repair. Of course nobody did return them, and once removed they are easy to fault find.

Trouble in the I.F. module means that you must remove the I.F. can and although it only has 7 connections, to get at it the switch bank must be removed first. This has about 30 connections to it and to do it successfully you must make a very accurate drawing of the switch bank assembly, or better still have an identical model to hand so that you can copy it on reassebley.
See in the picture the switch removed and the I.F. Module ready to be
wired in.

When refitting the can, use thin leads about 3 inches long then push the module back into position. This means that if you get any further trouble in the I.F. it is a simple matter to remove it for repair, as you can access the panel without removing the switch bank.

See the I.F. Ready for connection.

A good replacement for the AF117 AF115 is the easily available
AF125 Snip of the screen connection lead It's not needed.

The I.F. now in position. Now ready for a test.
